How the NI electricity market works
Northern Ireland has its own electricity market. NIE Networks owns and looks after the poles, wires and meters, and you pay your bill to whichever licensed supplier you've chosen. Switching supplier doesn't change the network, so your power doesn't go off.
Who supplies business electricity in NI?
There are several licensed business electricity suppliers in Northern Ireland, including well-known names like Power NI and SSE Airtricity alongside other independent suppliers. The list changes from time to time, so check the Utility Regulator's website for the current list of licensed suppliers. Naming them here doesn't mean we work with or for any of them.
What decides the price you pay?
Your rate depends on things like how much electricity you use and when, your meter type, how long you fix for and when you agree the contract. Standing charges and contract terms matter as much as the unit rate.
What to check on your bill
Look for your contract end date, unit rates, standing charge, meter number and annual usage. Those details are what anyone needs to check whether you could be paying less.
When to act
Don't wait for the renewal letter. Many contracts let you agree your next deal well before the end date. If you leave it too late you may roll onto a standard or out-of-contract rate, which can cost more.
How we help
We already hold contracts with the main UK suppliers, so we check your bill against the rates we've got. If we can do better, we'll show you. If not, we'll tell you straight. Either way it's free.
